The World Bank has raised its forecast for global economic growth to 2.6% in 2026 and 2.7% in 2027. This is stated in the December Global Economic Outlook report, published on January 13.

Earlier in June, expectations for 2026 were 2.4%, and for 2027 — 2.6%.

"In the long term, global economic growth is projected to decline slightly to 2.6% this year, as several supportive factors weaken. In particular, trade growth is expected to weaken as companies reduce inventory accumulation and tariff effects intensify," the report notes.

According to the World Bank, global GDP grew by 2.7% in 2025 instead of the previously expected 2.3%. Global inflation is projected to fall to 2.6% in 2026 amid softening financing conditions and budget support in a number of major countries.

The forecast for US GDP has been improved to 1.6% in 2026-2027 (it was 1.4%). China's growth estimate has been raised to 4.4% in 2026 and 4.2% in 2027. The eurozone economy is expected to expand by 0.9% and 1.2%, respectively.

Experts stress that despite the resilience, the 2020s could be the decade of weakest growth since the 1960s, widening the gap in living standards between developed and developing countries.

The press service of the World Gold Council reported on January 6 that global central banks maintained high demand for gold in November 2025, although the volume of purchases was lower than in October. According to the WGC, in November, regulators purchased a total of 45 tons of gold. The organization's report indicates that the decrease compared to the previous month was moderate, and the level of demand remained high against the background of the overall dynamics of 2025.
