The father of one of the dead children in the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital told Izvestia on January 13 about his wife's condition after the loss of a child.

"Nothing," he replied to a question about his wife's well—being.

He added that they are currently preparing the baby's funeral.

In Yakutia, at the request of the mother, an exhumation of a baby who died 17 years ago was carried out.

On the same day, it became known that obstetric hospital No. 1 of the G.P. Kurbatov City Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Novokuznetsk temporarily stopped receiving patients. It was clarified that this decision was made in connection with the excess incidence of respiratory infection.

Later it was reported about the death of nine babies in a maternity hospital in Novokuznetsk. The UK later confirmed the deaths of newborns. A criminal case was opened into the incident on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code ("Causing death by negligence"), Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code ("Negligence").

The Minister of Health of Kuzbass, Andrei Tarasov, confirmed the deaths of infants in a maternity hospital in Novokuznetsk. The governor of Kuzbass, Ilya Seredyuk, in turn, temporarily dismissed the chief physician of the hospital in whose maternity hospital the babies died.

The Chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, called the incident in the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital a tragedy for the state. She also instructed the senators to closely monitor the progress of the investigation.
