The check began after reports of deaths of infants in the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital.

In the Kemerovo region, after information about the deaths of newborns appeared, an inspection was organized at Novokuznetsk Maternity Hospital No. 1. This was reported on January 13 in the press service of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region.

"The investigative department for the city of Novokuznetsk of the SU IC of Russia for the Kemerovo region – Kuzbass has organized a pre—investigation check under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Negligence")," the SU IC wrote in the Telegram channel.

The supervisory authority, together with specialists from Rospotrebnadzor and Roszdravnadzor, began checking the institution's compliance with the requirements of legislation on healthcare, protection of minors' rights and compliance with sanitary and epidemiological norms and requirements in the maternity hospital.

In Yakutia, at the request of the mother, an exhumation of a baby who died 17 years ago was carried out.

Earlier that day, the website of the G.P. Kurbatov Novokuznetsk Maternity Hospital No. 1 reported that the admission of patients to the obstetric hospital had been temporarily stopped. It was noted that the decision was made for sanitary and epidemiological reasons. At the same time, it became known that at least nine babies died in the hospital during the New Year holidays.
