Moldovan President Maia Sandu has admitted that she would vote for unification with Romania. She stated this on January 11 in the podcast "The Rest Is Politics".

"If we have a referendum, I would vote for unification with Romania. It is becoming more and more difficult for a small country like Moldova to survive as a democracy, as a sovereign country," she said.

At the same time, Sandu noted that at the moment the majority of citizens of the republic do not support such an idea.

On November 6, Deputy Speaker of the Moldovan legislature Doina German announced that the Moldovan parliamentary commission on foreign policy had decided to abolish friendship groups with Russia and Belarus. She also stated that Moldova is a peace—loving country with many good friends. According to her, the Moldovan parliament currently has friendship groups with the national parliaments of 54 states.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 24 that a significant part of the Moldovan population, which advocates good relations with the Russian Federation, was deprived of the right to vote in their country. He added that many people in Moldovan society advocate a more balanced policy towards Russia.
