Alexander Ilyin, a forecaster at the Meteo forecasting center, predicted severe frosts for Epiphany in Moscow.
In conversation with aif.ru On Monday, January 12, the specialist explained that in the first working week after the New Year, the daytime temperature will drop to -11 degrees, and at night — to -16 degrees. At the same time, on Monday, January 19, the day of the celebration of Epiphany, a cold snap below -20 degrees is expected.
Ilyin noted that frosts will increase closer to Epiphany, however, extremely low temperatures are not predicted during the coming week.
On the same day, Ilyin, in an interview with RT, noted that there would be light snow in the capital in the middle of the week. The snowfall will increase and thicken by Friday. At the same time, precipitation is not expected for Epiphany, Moscow 24 reports.
Evgeny Tishkovets, a specialist at the Phobos weather center, warned on January 11 that frosts of up to -30 degrees were expected in the capital region by January 19. According to him, on Saturday, January 17, -13...-18 degrees are expected, on Sunday — up to -18 ...-23 degrees, during the day the temperature will not exceed -10 ...-15 degrees. According to preliminary forecasts, real Epiphany frosts will hit on January 19 — -20...-25 degrees are expected in the morning. And on January 20-21, night temperatures may drop to -25...-30 degrees, during the day -12...-17 degrees, which is significantly lower than the climatic norm, notes 360.ru . Abnormal cold weather can last almost a week, according to the Moscow City News agency.
By January 11, 72% of the monthly precipitation rate had fallen in Moscow. The snow height is one and a half times higher than the prescribed 37 cm, RIAMO clarifies. In some places, half-meter snowdrifts appeared in the Moscow region. Up to 16 cm of snow may fall in the capital in the coming days.
