In eastern India, an elephant killed at least 17 people over the New Year holidays, including four members of the same family. This was reported on January 12 by the Times of India newspaper.
"We continue to be on duty in the fields and are looking for the elephant in several groups, but we have not been able to find it today," the newspaper quoted Aditya Narayan, an employee of the forestry department, as saying.
