Sergey Galkov, a prize-winner of the World Rowing and canoeing Championships, has died.

Sergey Galkov, a Russian kayaker, died at the age of 61. This was announced on January 12 by the press service of the Russian Canoe Federation.

"It is with deep regret that we inform you that Sergey Vitalievich Galkov, an athlete, wise organizer and leader of Russian sports, has passed away at the age of 61," the federation's Telegram channel says.

The causes of the athlete's death were not disclosed. The federation recalled that Galkov had twice reached the podium at the World Championships, winning bronze medals in 1991 and 1993. The athlete also represented the USSR national team at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. Then he performed in a duet with Sergey Kolesnikov.

Galkov's farewell will take place on January 13 in Moscow at the address: Velozavodskaya 1/1 p. 6. The start is scheduled for 10:00 Moscow time.
