The European Union (EU) countries "shot themselves in the foot" after the decision to allocate a loan to Ukraine in the amount of €90 billion. This was announced on January 12 by the former head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Kuleba.

According to him, at the moment the EU has "a billion problems", which include existential crises, as well as the lack of ability to build its security without the United States.

"And it shot itself in the foot, but the European Union still found €90 billion for Ukraine for two years," Kuleba said in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda published on the YouTube channel.

At the same time, Kuleba acknowledged that Europe remains Kiev's partner, but described this support as unstable. He pointed to the lack of stability of the EU as a reliable ally, stressing that the consistency of Brussels can be traced only in the issue of sanctions policy.

The newspaper Le Figaro reported on December 30 last year that the European Union's loan to Ukraine of €90 billion would damage the French economy.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on December 25 that the leadership of the European Union, which decided to send €90 billion to support Kiev, instead of investing in the development of Ukraine, is solely interested in continuing the conflict.

Prior to this, the EU leaders failed to agree on a plan in which they would use frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine. Instead, the EU countries will provide a loan of €90 billion from the total budget of the bloc.
