An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred off the coast of Kamchatka

An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 was recorded in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Kamchatka. Tremors were felt in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. This was announced on January 12 at the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"Coordinates: 52.6603, 159.5437. <...> Magnitude (Ml): 5.1," the Telegram channel of the research center says.

It is noted that the epicenter was located at a distance of about 77 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. At the same time, the hearth was located at a depth of almost 48 km.

More than 60 people became victims, many still remain under the rubble.

On the same day, it was reported that 13 aftershocks had been recorded in Kamchatka over the past day. The magnitude of the seismological event was up to 4.8. The earthquake also awakened some volcanoes.
