Municipal services in Moscow continue to clean up the consequences of the heavy snowfall that hit the capital on January 9. On January 10, Izvestia publishes footage of the operation of a snow-melting point in the capital.
The footage shows that the city authorities have sent special equipment to clear the streets of snow. Mobile snowplows drive along the sidewalks of the capital and remove the snow cover. They also participate in cleaning the courtyards of residential buildings, where snow accumulations are the heaviest.
In addition, clearing is also underway on Moscow's highways. There are trucks on them, in the bodies of which all the removed snow is stacked. Utility workers have also joined in the cleanup — they are clearing snow with shovels.
After harvesting, the collected snow blocks are taken to special snow melting points, where they are ground into small pieces.
Earlier in the day, the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia reported that in Moscow, on January 9, a record amount of precipitation fell in the entire history of weather observations in the city. It is noted that the total amount of precipitation that has fallen in the capital since the beginning of the year already exceeds 35 mm, which was 67% of the precipitation norm.
Yesterday it was reported that due to heavy snowfall caused by Cyclone Frances, traffic on some sections of the MKAD was almost paralyzed. Motorists spent several hours in traffic jams, and some cars got stuck in the snow.
In addition, adverse weather conditions led to disruptions in the operation of the capital's airports, where 28 flights were canceled and more than 50 were delayed, while no mass congestion of passengers was recorded in the terminals, and airlines provided them with food and accommodation during long delays.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
