Russians were warned about a new scheme of fraudsters with callbacks
Attackers seeking to deceive Russians began to actively use a new deception scheme based on a callback, which they developed after the introduction of restrictions on calls in instant messengers. This was announced on January 10 by Stanislav Kuznetsov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank.
The interlocutor of RIA Novosti clarified that the attackers are building a scheme so that the potential victim dials their number herself. To do this, people are sent messages with plausible pretexts — urgent requests to clarify information, confirm data, or call back at the specified phone number.
Kuznetsov recalled that the Russian government has taken an unprecedented decision to create a state platform called "Antifraud", which should unite the efforts of banks, telecom operators and government agencies to counter fraud.
"The market has rules, standards, and cybersecurity tools. Many companies are intensively developing their own anti—fraud technologies and services, which are ahead of their foreign counterparts," he concluded.
Last December, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted a 7% decrease in telephone fraud crimes in the country. The amount of damage caused by such acts also decreased by 33%. The Russian leader urged citizens to remember that fraud has not gone away anyway and the attackers will improve their tools.
