FIDE's decision to lift sanctions against the Russian national teams was appealed to the CAS by five countries.

The decision of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) to completely lift sanctions against the Russian national teams was appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) by the national federations of Ukraine, England, Estonia, Germany and Norway. This was announced on January 7 by the press service of the Estonian organization.

The same appeals were filed against Belarus.

"The national chess federations of Ukraine, England, Norway, Estonia and Germany filed an appeal to the CAS on Monday, January 5, challenging the decisions of the FIDE General Assembly of December 14, 2025 regarding the participation of the national teams of Russia and Belarus in international competitions," the statement said.
