The United States has started selling Venezuelan oil on the world market
The United States has started selling oil from Venezuela on the world market. This was announced on January 7 on the website of the US Department of Energy.
"The United States government has begun selling Venezuelan oil on the world market in the interests of the United States, Venezuela and our allies. We have engaged the world's leading suppliers of raw materials and key banks to implement and provide financial support for these sales of oil and petroleum products," the statement said.
It is noted that the funds received as a result of the trade will be credited to accounts controlled by the United States, "to ensure the legality and integrity of the final distribution of proceeds."
It is also reported that the United States is selectively lifting sanctions against Venezuela in order to transport oil and supply it to world markets.
Earlier in the day, US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright announced that the US administration was working directly with the Venezuelan authorities and wanted to sell all of the country's oil on its own in the future. It is specified that after Washington's intervention, oil production in Venezuela may increase by 900 thousand barrels per day. Wright added that he is communicating with American oil companies to determine the conditions for their entry into the country, and that the goal is to transfer oil revenues to US—controlled accounts.
On January 6, US President Donald Trump announced that the Venezuelan authorities would transfer from 30 million to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States for subsequent sale on the market. The American leader will personally take control of the revenue.
