On January 6, US President Donald Trump said that the Democratic Party was trying to impeach him for asking Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to "not cheat" and warning about corruption.

"I told Ukraine not to cheat. And if you see any cheating, report it to the U.S. Attorney General. That's right, that was my call. They said he was trying to intimidate them," Trump said, speaking to Republican lawmakers from the U.S. House of Representatives.

The American leader recalled a telephone conversation with the president of Ukraine in 2019. He stressed that there is an agreement between the countries on the prevention of fraud, which, according to him, Kiev "violated many times." Trump complained that no one was kicked out for this, but he is sure that the truth will eventually be revealed.

On the same day, Democratic Congresswoman April McClain Delaney called on the party leadership to consider launching impeachment proceedings against Trump. The reason was the military operation in Venezuela, conducted without congressional approval. According to her, it is urgently necessary to discuss the possibility of impeachment within the democratic faction, stressing that it is about protecting the constitutional order.
