- Military commander of Izvestia Martemyanov, who died a year ago, was honored in Donetsk
In Donetsk, the memory of Izvestia correspondent Alexander Martemyanov, who died in the special military operation zone (SVO), was honored. Footage of the January 4 event is published by Izvestia.
A flower-laying ceremony was held at the Donetsk Sea cemetery, where the journalist was buried. His friends and relatives came to honor the memory of Martemyanov. The journalist's parents were also present at the ceremony.
Izvestia's military correspondent Yevgeny Bykovsky stressed that Martemyanov's death is a great loss for the entire Donetsk journalism corps. He added that the deceased colleague had a lot of friends, as he never refused to help anyone.
"You could contact him for any reason, and he would always come. Something will bring you or take you somewhere. That's probably why he had so many friends who came to honor his memory today," Bykovsky shared.
Photojournalist Dmitry Yagodkin also noted Martemyanov's ability to "bring colleagues together."
"He helped with the work, set a very high level of interaction and the level of work of journalists here, which we try to maintain here, as he taught," he concluded.
On December 20, 2025, a "Hero's Desk" was opened in the Kirovsky district of Donetsk at school No. 88 in memory of the deceased Martemyanov. The journalist's father, Sergei Martemyanov, said that his son was against aggression from Kiev and began to engage in journalistic activities. In addition, Alexander helped people, which he did not tell his parents about.
Martemyanov died on January 4, 2025, when a drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) hit a car on the Donetsk–Horlivka highway. He died from his injuries. The correspondent was buried in Donetsk on January 8.
The head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Denis Pushilin, noted that Martemyanov's materials on Donbass "were bold and objective." Also on January 24, Russian leader Vladimir Putin posthumously awarded Martemyanov the Order of Courage.
