Venezuela allowed the possibility of a second attack if Trump's demands were not met.
The possibility of a repeat attack on Venezuela exists if the basic demands of the American leader Donald Trump are not met. This opinion was expressed by Venezuelan political scientist and journalist Vicente Quintero in an interview with Izvestia on January 4.
"If Trump's demands are not met, at least on the most important points, we can expect a second attack," he said.
According to the expert, if the requirements of the White House administration are met, the swearing-in ceremony of Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez may take place on Monday, January 5. He clarified that according to the country's Constitution, if the incumbent president of the country is unable to perform his duties, the vice president takes his place.
As the political scientist noted, various political measures may be taken after that. Quintero added that a business agenda related to investment funds and joint projects is currently being developed.
On January 3, the US president said that the purpose of the military operation in Venezuela was to capture the Venezuelan leader. The head of the White House also charged him and his wife with "drug terrorism" against US citizens, adding that they would face "American justice."
Prior to that, the head of the White House said that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike on Venezuela. According to him, Maduro and his wife were captured and taken out of the country. Later, NBC News reported on the landing of a plane with Maduro on board in New York.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, in turn, called on the American leadership to release the Venezuelan president and his wife. In addition, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern and condemnation after the military operation in Venezuela, expressing its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and the leadership of the state.
Russia's Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Dmitry Polyansky later announced that a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Venezuela was scheduled for 10:00 (18:00 Moscow time) on January 5.
