The AI Overviews feature from the American technology company Google, which is able to create medical reviews and provide relevant advice, spreads false and misleading information that can harm people's health. This was reported on Friday, January 2, by the British newspaper The Guardian.
According to the results of a study conducted by the publication, some of the reports prepared by this artificial intelligence (AI) contain false information from almost the first lines. Experts who were asked to evaluate the materials created by AI Overviews confirmed that they are the exact opposite of the doctors' recommendations.
"In one case, Google mistakenly advised people with pancreatic cancer to avoid high-fat foods. <...> In another <...> the company provided false information about important liver function tests, which can make people with serious liver disease mistakenly think that they are healthy," the article says.
It is emphasized that Google representatives, who were provided with the texts issued by their development, stated that there were links to "well-known, reputable sources and recommendations to contact experts for advice." They also noted that the vast majority of their reviews "were factual and useful."
"If AI Overviews misinterprets web content or misses context, it (the company. — Ed.) will take measures in accordance with its policy," the newspaper quoted them as saying.
