European countries are lagging behind in space exploration. This was reported by Bloomberg on January 2.

"As space is rapidly becoming an important battlefield, Europe risks falling behind. Her current approach to the new space race — regulation first, then competition — is unlikely to help," the article says.

According to the publication, Europe currently accounts for only about 10% of public investment in the space industry and 22% of private investment, while more than half is in the United States. Its market share in the production and launch of spacecraft has fallen to about 6% from more than 20% in 2008.

"The European Ariane 6 rocket, a single—use rocket funded by significant subsidies, has made only a few launches since last year, and its cost is estimated to exceed $100 million per flight," the article says.

It is also specified that the reusable Falcon 9 rocket of the American company SpaceX has completed more than 160 launches over the past year. According to the agency, space now plays a central role in defense, where Europe "continues to underfund its projects."

US President Donald Trump declared on November 27, 2025, that the United States is the leader in the space race. He clarified that the country had previously lost to China and Russia, since the American side did not have space forces.

On November 4, Bloomberg, citing information from the American space forces, reported that the United States was close to deploying two new types of weapons designed to jam Russian and Chinese satellites.
