Caracas is ready to start discussions with Washington on a potential agreement on the fight against drug trafficking initiated by US President Donald Trump if the negotiations are "serious." This was announced on Thursday, January 1, by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro.

"If they (the United States. They want to seriously discuss an agreement on combating drug trafficking, we are ready," RIA Novosti news agency quoted him as saying live on air to journalist Ignacio Ramonet.

The Venezuelan leader clarified that the American side had been repeatedly informed of his country's readiness to begin the negotiation process.
