Kallas blamed Russia for cable damage incidents in the Baltic Sea
The head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, accused the Russian Federation of involvement in incidents related to cable damage in the Baltic Sea. She made the corresponding statement on January 1 on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"Europe's critical infrastructure remains at high risk of sabotage," she wrote.
However, without providing specific evidence, Callas said that since the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict, there has been a "clear trend towards incidents in the Baltic Sea" on the part of Russia.
On the same day, it became known that the Finnish Coast Guard had detained a vessel on suspicion of allegedly damaging an underwater telecommunications cable in the Gulf of Finland. Then the VL Turva vessel arrived at the place and found that the anchor chain of the vessel was in the water.
Later, the Finnish government notified the Russian Embassy about the detention of the vessel, which has Russians among its crew members. At that time, the agency also announced its readiness to provide necessary assistance to Russian citizens from a vessel detained by the Finnish authorities.
