On the night of December 31 to January 1, 18 boys and 26 girls were born in the capital. This was announced on January 1 by Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Affairs.

"On New Year's Eve, mothers and babies were surrounded by attention and care from the staff of Moscow maternity hospitals and perinatal centers. From December 31 to January 1, 44 children were born there — 18 boys and 26 girls," TASS quoted her as saying.

According to her, the first girl to be born in 2026 was a girl weighing 2,380 g at 00:00:00. The largest child weighed 4,240 g, and the smallest turned out to weigh 1,480 g.

On December 19, Putin announced during the "Results of the Year" that a positive demographic trend had been recorded in 25 regions of Russia. The Russian leader added that this indicates the effectiveness of the work of regional authorities, which achieve significant success when they pay due attention to this area.

Prior to that, on September 12, Putin said that improving demographics, supporting fertility, improving people's quality of life, and promoting the values of a large family are priority and national tasks for Russia.
