Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of Southeastern Norway, said that the heads of European states will make every effort to prevent a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict. He made the corresponding statement on January 1 on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"The Europeans will make it so that a peaceful end to the conflict becomes impossible," he wrote.

Thus, Diesen commented on the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron about the upcoming summit on January 6, at which decisions on security guarantees for Ukraine will be discussed.

Macron said in his New Year's address to the nation on December 31 that representatives of all European countries and their allies would make a firm commitment to defend Ukraine after concluding any peace treaty.

On December 29, the French president, announcing a meeting of the "coalition of the willing" at the beginning of next month, said that he, along with other European leaders, as well as with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, was striving for progress on security guarantees for Kiev in order to establish peace.
