A hydrochloric acid leak occurred at the Tiange nuclear power plant in Belgium, and firefighters are currently eliminating the consequences of the incident. This was reported by the Belga news agency on December 31.

"Firefighters have been sent to the Tjanj NPP due to an acid leak. According to preliminary data, this incident does not pose a danger to residents of the surrounding areas," the publication says.

It is noted that the leak occurred from a barrel, which was placed in a storage silo for safety reasons.

On December 22, Reuters reported that the Japanese authorities had taken the last political step to resume operation of the world's largest nuclear power plant, Kashiwazaki-Kariwa, which was shut down after the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant accident in 2011. Opponents of the project call the decision a "political compromise that does not reflect the will of the residents." According to the results of a survey of residents of the prefecture, 60% of the population considers the conditions of the restart unfulfilled.
