On December 31, President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, in his New Year's greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, declared his readiness to achieve new heights in the development of bilateral cooperation with the Russian leader in the coming year.

"I am ready to continue to maintain close negotiations with President Putin and jointly lead China—Russia relations to achieve new results in a new era," China Central Television (CCTV) quoted him as saying.

Xi Jinping recalled that 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic Russian-Chinese partnership and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation. In addition, he said that in 2026-2027, both countries will hold a series of events on the occasion of the cross-year "Years of Education."

The Chinese leader stressed that Moscow and Beijing support each other in multilateral projects, such as the United Nations, and also contribute to the reform and improvement of global governance.

On the same day, CCTV reported that Putin and Xi Jinping exchanged congratulations on the upcoming New Year. It was noted that the Russian president wished the Chinese people happiness and health, and his Chinese counterpart wished the Russians all the best.
