The State traffic Inspectorate reminded about the safety of children on vacation
During the New Year holidays, the State Traffic Inspectorate has intensified its work to ensure road safety. This was reported to Izvestia on January 5 in the GUOBDD of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Traffic police inspectors patrol the territories near educational organizations and places of mass recreation, paying increased attention to the observance of parking and stopping rules, speed control of vehicles and safe transportation of children, the department noted.
When traveling with children, parents should take maximum care when driving, be sure to fasten their children with seat belts and use special restraints, avoid sudden maneuvers in the car and closely monitor weather changes, the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia emphasized.
"In conditions of short daylight hours and adverse weather conditions, such as snowfall and ice, visibility decreases. Therefore, parents need to take care in advance about the presence of retroreflective elements on the child's outerwear, which make him more visible on the road at night or in conditions of limited visibility," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
New Year's holidays are often accompanied by an increase in the number of car accidents involving children and teenagers. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, children who are free from school often find themselves on their own, spending more time outside the home, which increases the risk of getting into dangerous situations on the roads.
Parents also need to be vigilant to prevent injury among children who are interested in winter sports and entertainment. When sledding, tubing, skiing or snowboarding, children should always be under the supervision of an adult, wear protective equipment and choose specially equipped places for outdoor activities that exclude access to public roads, the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia emphasized.
"It is absolutely unacceptable to travel on winter equipment, sleds and tubing tied to a car. These extremely dangerous activities can result in serious injuries or even the death of a child," Sergei Hrantskevich recalled.
During the winter holidays, traffic police conduct various actions and classes for schoolchildren aimed at raising children's awareness of traffic regulations. Through games, excursions, contests and quizzes, experts introduce children to the rules of behavior on the roads, help them choose safe routes to festive venues, cultural and sports facilities, the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia said.
Earlier, on December 30, 2025, it became known that the perpetrators of road accidents in Russia last year were most often drivers born under the signs of Capricorn and Leo. The top five anti-rating also included Taurus, Aries and Cancer.
