- Polish Prime Minister Tusk says the United States is ready to deploy troops in Ukraine
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on December 30 that the United States is ready to deploy its troops in Ukraine as part of security guarantees after the conflict ends.
"A key consequence of [US President Donald]'s conversations Trump's meeting with [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky is an American declaration of readiness for the United States to participate in security guarantees for Ukraine after the conclusion of peace, including with the presence of American troops," TVN24 quoted Tusk as saying.
The Polish prime minister noted that this step is something new and even caused surprise among some partners.
On the same day, Zelensky said he was ready to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in any format. He added that Ukraine and the United States are holding intensive consultations on a daily basis to coordinate the points of the peace plan.
On December 30, Tusk said that peace in Ukraine could be achieved in the coming weeks. He also stressed the need to coordinate actions at the international level during the negotiations.
