Pictures of a table with expensive food and high-end drinks during the New Year holidays may cause an inspection by the Federal Tax Service (FTS). This was announced on December 30 by financial market expert Andrey Barkhota.

Barkhota clarified that if a person earns 35 thousand rubles a month, but at the same time spends 100 thousand on a New Year's table, this may arouse suspicion and lead to a check of his sources of income.

"The tax Inspectorate, using digitalization as the most advanced tracking method, can aggregate photos of a particular taxpayer's celebrations and, after seeing completely exorbitant expenses, launch an income source check," he said in an interview with the newspaper "Paragraph".

According to the expert, the photos can be used as evidence during inspections. At the same time, such images will not be directly used in court proceedings, but they may become part of the evidence base confirming that expenses significantly exceed officially declared incomes.

On November 14, it was reported that the average cost of products for a New Year's table in Russia would be about 10 thousand rubles. Analysts also estimated that the New Year's basket includes products for a hot dish, sliced vegetables, snacks, sandwiches with caviar and sprats, as well as salads "Olivier" and "herring under a fur coat" for four.

It was also noted on December 29 that by the New Year holidays of 2025, cooking one sandwich with red caviar would cost Russians about 168 rubles. According to calculations, a full set of sandwich products in the store will cost 3,355 rubles.
