The Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL) have traded Russian striker Egor Chinakhov to the Pittsburgh Penguins. This became known on December 30 from a message on the Columbus website.

"Today, the president of hockey operations and general manager of the club, Don Waddell, announced that the Columbus Blue Jackets acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins a second-round pick of the 2026 NHL draft (St. Louis), a third-round pick of the 2027 draft (Washington) and forward Danton Heinen in exchange for striker Egor Chinakhov," the message says.

According to Waddell, a change of scenery was in the best interests of both Chinakhov and the club. He also thanked the player for his contribution over the past five seasons and clarified that the exchange would provide the club with additional draft picks in the next two years.

On the same day, the Washington Capitals were defeated by the Florida Panthers in the NHL regular season match. The match was held at the American Bank Arena on December 30 and ended with a score of 5:3 in favor of the Florida club. Washington's Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin spent 20 minutes on the ice, during which he scored two shots on goal and also used five power techniques.
