Since January 2026, automatic renewal of driver's licenses will be abolished in Russia. Pavel Fedyaev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport and Transport Infrastructure Development, recalled this on December 27.

"At one time, in 2020, the driver's license was extended by presidential decree, it was an exceptional measure during the coronavirus pandemic. Then, in 2022, the initiative was put forward by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia together with the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, and the extension was also initially conceived as a temporary measure. Starting from January 1, 2026, the temporary procedure for automatic renewal of rights, effective from 2022, will expire," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
