In the New Year, everyone is waiting for miracles, and new TV series are ready to shower the audience with them in reserve. In "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", the new sequel to "Game of Thrones", a simple guy with a sword will be able to stand up to a representative of the royal dynasty, in "Wish Card" a girl of pre-Balzac age will take revenge on all ill-wishers, and in "The Secret of the Seven Dials" a young aristocrat will be able to solve the mystery of a mysterious murder. Izvestia reports on the most interesting TV premieres in January.

The "Wish Card"

Okko

January 1st

Olesya is already 30, and the clock is ticking deafeningly loudly — at least, her mother reminds her of this every time they meet. Olesya is angry at her annoying mother, at her girlfriend with a gorgeous figure, at her boring job, harmful colleagues, her frivolous fiance, her own faded appearance, and generally at her villainous fate. Participation in the psychological marathon "Wish Card" changes everything. Having drawn her own map, Olesya realizes with fear that her wishes are beginning to come true: her friend gets fat, her colleague gets into trouble, and her mother turns out to be pregnant at the age of 60. In order not to be left without a fiance in the end, Olesya urgently has to find a way to stop the marathon of wish fulfillment...

It seems that the creators of the TV show were somewhat late in coming to the screen: the boom of psychological marathons was left far behind, having retained a not particularly good memory of themselves, and now they are only involved in criminal cases of fraud and tax charges. So the plot of the "Wish Card" will arouse interest, rather, among law enforcement officials. Well, they also need to relax sometimes.

"Lyuba the Manager"

Start

January 3rd

After the divorce, the pretty Lyuba, a mother of two children, moves into a new apartment complex. The communal affairs here are very bad, and the neighbors do nothing but quarrel with the management company, and in their spare time — with each other. Unable to tolerate these outrages, Lyuba takes care of the house into her own hands. She will have to endure ridicule and distrust, overcome herself and learn to believe in her own strength in order to convince her neighbors to act together for the sake of common comfort, make friends with them and bring joy and warmth to her big house, and at the same time into her own life.

"Lyuba the Manager" will undoubtedly bring together incorrigible romantics who still believe in Santa Claus and the ideals of the commune. The image of a divorced woman with two trailers, who has moved into a luxurious residential complex and is not burdened by the need to work, but has endless leisure for social activity, warms the viewer's soul no less than the visit of the winter wizard through the ventilation. In the same row, there is universal neighborhood friendship, not overshadowed by parking problems and differences in musical tastes, and a quick successful solution to communal problems in a new building by an energetic divorcee and a goofy company of tenants, of whom, it seems, only one in two is able to bring a spoon to his mouth, bypassing the ear. Psychologists have long had the concept of library therapy — it seems that "Lyuba the Manager" may well become a new word in teletherapy for both divorced mothers and newcomers.

"The Secret of the Seven Dials"

Netflix

January 15th

England, 1925. A select group gathers at the luxurious Chimneys country estate of millionaire Oswald Coote. However, the celebration ends in tragedy: one of the guests dies under mysterious circumstances, and seven alarm clocks are found around the corpse. Superintendent Battle, who is leading the police investigation, is confused, and then a young, curious aristocrat, Eileen Brent, decides to take matters into her own hands.

The plot sounds like a retelling of a typical Agatha Christie novel — it is based on her detective story of the same name, which is not the most popular, however, and the series is staged.

The styling was brilliant: city streets and manor landscapes, luxurious rooms and costumes of the characters, weapons and cars, and even those notorious alarm clocks — every detail fits perfectly into the overall picture, complementing the beautifully detailed world of the series. The cast is also impressive: Martin Freeman, known for his roles as Watson in Sherlock and Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, plays Superintendent Battle, and Mia McKenna—Bruce from Vampire Academy plays Eileen. And, of course, Helena Bonham Carter, whose mere presence guarantees a magnificent spectacle.

"Star Trek: Starfleet Academy"

Paramount+

January 15th

A group of cadets have enrolled at the Star Trek Academy, which has resumed operations after 120 years since the events of the Star Trek: Discovery series. They master navigation, strategy, and diplomatic protocol, learn to be friends and work as a team, quarrel and fall in love, and, of course, can't wait for the day when they will become officers. However, perhaps the cadets will have to join the fight for peace in the Universe sooner than they think: the corps is threatened by the mysterious alien villain Nus, and its own secrets hidden in the past do not guarantee its safety...

The Star Trek franchise is the oldest and, it seems, the most extensive of the multi—part space adventure stories. The original series ended in 1969 - the first sequel was released four years later, and since then, it seems, not a single year has passed fruitlessly. The Star Trek: Discovery series, which was continued by The Academy, ended just a year ago. Such a dense narrative, however, makes the job easier: the style of the franchise changes almost imperceptibly to the fan eye, but technology provides more entertainment with each sequel. The new spin-off is an unequivocal message to fans of the saga: the appearance of numerous young faces is a thick hint that the franchise will continue to expand with the same confident power as the universe itself.

"Knight of the Seven Kingdoms"

HBO

January 18th

The next sequel to Game of Thrones takes place a century before the War of the Five Kings. Peace reigns in the Seven Kingdoms, and the Targaryens successfully rule Westeros. The noble, brave and naive knight Duncan the Tall and his impudent out-of-rank squire named Egg roam Westeros. Arriving at the jousting tournament, Duncan meets with several representatives of the Targaryen family and engages in battle with one of them. A rustic-looking guy with a spear and a sword is looked down upon condescendingly, but Duncan is able to surprise even the all-powerful representatives of the ruling dynasty, and his squire is not as simple as it seems...

The super-successful "Game of Thrones" inevitably had to pull a number of sequels: now we are watching the second one. A pleasant surprise was that the owners of the franchise do not seem to intend to reduce the level of filming. So the "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" will delight the audience with a carefully designed entourage, attention to historical details, excellent staging of fights and traditionally high-quality acting. It is unlikely that this or the subsequent sequels will be able to cause the same excitement as the original series, but they will certainly gather their audience. This time, the creators of the TV show went beyond the boundaries of A Song of Ice and Fire, moving on to the next novel series by George Martin, The Tales of Dunk and Egg. The writer's bibliography is rich, so the show will continue; the second season of "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is already scheduled for 2027.

"Major Thunder: Playing against the Rules"

Kinopoisk

January 19th

The most famous lover of shawarma, fearless St. Petersburg police major Igor Grom prefers to ignore the rules if they prevent him from cleansing his beloved city of the scum of society and infernal villains. Therefore, the high authorities look askance at him, but his colleagues respect and adore the Petersburgers who jointly erected a monument to him. If Igor Grom's reputation is being tried to muddy by a whole gang of his own doppelgangers, he will be able to emerge victorious from a fight with them.

According to the creators of the series, it will link together three films of the franchise: "Major Thunder: The Plague Doctor", "Major Thunder: The Game" and the prequel about the childhood of the hero "Thunder: A Difficult childhood", expanding the universe of the St. Petersburg major. The idea is ambiguous: on the one hand, there is a lot of action and little conversation in the films about Igor Grom, and here the format of the series should be extremely beneficial. On the other hand, the lack of new plot moves makes one suspect that the creators could not squeeze anything new out of the original idea and are simply trying to arrange the unused project materials better: viewers are promised additional scenes from the archive that were not included in the films. Well, we will find out very soon which of the guesses will be correct.
