Zakharova invited Sweden to apologize for the detention of the Adler vessel
The Swedish authorities would do well to apologize for the detention of the Russian ship Adler. This was announced on December 25 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"They should apologize, apologize, and maybe even compensate for the damage, but it was done," she said at a briefing.
According to the diplomat, instead of apologizing and compensating for the damage caused, the Swedish customs and law enforcement agencies continued to inspect the vessel.
Zakharova also added that the detention of the container ship is a violation of international law, and expressed the hope that Sweden would refrain from further steps that could lead to tension.
SVT TV channel reported on December 22 that the Swedish Prosecutor's office decided not to initiate an investigation into the Adler vessel, which was suspected of allegedly violating US and European Union (EU) sanctions. The cargo ship has been anchored in the Heganas area since December 20 after an engine failure. His search was carried out on the night of December 21.
