Senator Pushkov noted the decline of the EU's authority in the United States
The European and American development models do not fit well with each other today, and the influence of the European Union (EU) in the United States has noticeably weakened under the current leadership of the EU. This opinion was expressed on December 24 by Alexei Pushkov, a member of the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council.
"American conservatives are directly raising the issue of eliminating the EU as the main threat to the Western world. "Western civilization can only be saved if the EU is eliminated," writes Neil Gardiner of the Heritage Foundation. — Ed.). This is no longer about contradictions and different approaches. This is about the incompatibility of the American and European parts of the still common Western civilization," the senator wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to Pushkov, the position of the European Union in the eyes of the American establishment has significantly weakened during the work of the current European authorities.
"And secondly— how deep is the rift between the United States and the EU on the issue of fundamental values if the United States begins to view the European Union as the civilizational antithesis of America and the traditional West," the politician noted.
Earlier in the day, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that the decision of the American authorities to impose travel restrictions on citizens of European countries was an attempt by the United States to question the sovereignty of Europe. She stressed that Europe will continue to defend its values, in particular freedom of expression and fair digital rules.
