Russian Alexander Maltsev became the best synchronized swimmer of 2025 according to the International Federation of Water Sports (World Aquatics).

According to Sport-Express, the 30-year-old athlete won three gold medals and one silver medal at the 2025 World Championships in Singapore. He won in the technical and free programs in individual competitions, won in the technical program of mixed duets together with Maya Gurbanberdieva and took second place in the free program of mixed duets paired with Olesya Platonova.

During his career, Maltsev became world champion seven times and European champion six times. In addition, he is a multiple winner of the Russian championship and a four-time champion of the BRICS Games.

On July 25, Maltsev was also recognized as the best synchronized swimmer at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. Then the award was presented to the athlete by the first-ever world champion in men's synchronized swimming, Bill May.
