Rosatom State Corporation is ready for international cooperation on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), but within the framework of the law and unconditional safety of the plant. This was announced on December 23 by the head of the state corporation Alexey Likhachev during a speech on the issue of a license for the operation of unit No. 1 of the Zaporizhia NPP.
"As part of the unconditional security of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, as part of such support for today's highly professional team, we are ready for international discussions and are ready for international cooperation," he said.
Likhachev stressed that only its operating organization can manage the NPP. "The head of Rosatom noted that the transition to the resumption of the NPP operation will begin based on the military-political situation. In addition, he added that Russia, as the owner of the plant, will decide where the electricity from the NPP will be in demand.
On the same day, Rostechnadzor granted the Zaporizhia NPP a license to operate power unit No. 1 for a period of 10 years. It was noted that the overhaul of the NPP's power units was planned for 2026. The power plant plans to obtain licenses for the operation of units No. 2-6 in 2026-2027.
On December 3, the next scheduled change of inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was successfully carried out at the NPP. They passed through the territory of Russia. The previous 31st inspection team carried out a lot of work at the facility, monitoring the safe operation conditions of the plant during its complete external de-energization for 30 days. Repair work on external power transmission lines was also completed at this time.
