The volume of issued car loans decreased by a third in Russia
In January-November 2025, car loans in the amount of 1375.3 billion rubles were issued in Russia. This is 34.2% less than in the same period last year, when the volume of disbursements amounted to 2089.4 billion rubles. This was announced on December 23 by the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI).
The largest amount of car loans was issued in Moscow (128.9 billion rubles), the Moscow Region (112.3 billion rubles), St. Petersburg (77 billion rubles), Krasnodar Territory (68.3 billion rubles) and the Republic of Tatarstan (68.2 billion rubles).
At the same time, volumes decreased the most over the year in the Rostov (-41.2%), Moscow (-39%) and Chelyabinsk (-38.6%) regions, as well as in St. Petersburg (-37.4%) and Moscow (-37.4%), the bureau calculated.
According to Alexey Volkov, NBKI's marketing director, the drop in car loans compared to last year is due to an increase in market rates and recycling fees, as well as the introduction of macroprudential limits on car loans in the middle of last year. Recently, banks have been rejecting car loan applications more often and increasing the requirements for the quality of credit histories, thereby reducing the risks of delays in the future.
Earlier that day, it was reported that in the Russian secondary car market in the price segment from 5 million to 8 million rubles, Russians were most often going to borrow BMW X5, Toyota Land Cruiser, BMW 5 series, Lexus LX and BMW X6 cars.
