The Investigative Committee of Russia has completed the investigation of a criminal case against 21 members of an organized criminal group who fraudulently stole more than 110 million rubles from pensioners. This was announced on December 23 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee Svetlana Petrenko.

"The investigative authorities of the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the city of Moscow have completed the investigation of a criminal case against 21 members of an organized criminal group accused of committing fraud on an especially large scale," the Investigative Committee's Telegram channel says.

According to the investigation, the criminal group was created in September 2024 by three residents of Novosibirsk and the Novosibirsk region. The attackers called elderly people, posing as employees of mobile operators, the Central Bank, government services or law enforcement agencies, and persuaded them to transfer money to "secure accounts." The gang's activities covered Moscow, the Moscow Region and other regions of Russia.

During the investigation, 30 bank accounts of the defendants and the car of one of them were seized. The collected materials were transferred to the prosecutor's office to prepare for the trial. The suspects face criminal liability for fraud on an especially large scale and the organization of a criminal community.

On December 6, it became known that fraudsters stole more than 48 million rubles from a 70-year-old pensioner under the guise of replacing a bank account. According to investigators, the pensioner first received a call from alleged social security personnel, then a call came to his number from a false law enforcement officer, who, in turn, told about the investigation of the criminal case. It was noted that the attacker intimidated the pensioner by sending documents in a messenger, after which he signed a "non-disclosure agreement" and agreed to receive a "secret mobile phone" for constant communication.
