Sergei Sitenko, a captured serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), said that he was conscripted into the army by employees of the Military training center (a territorial recruitment center, an analogue of the military enlistment office) when he went fishing with a classmate. The man told about this during the interrogation on a video provided on December 23 by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

After checking the documents, the staff of the military enlistment office stated that the Ukrainian was wanted and he needed to go to the military enlistment office for 20 minutes and sign a notification paper. In case of refusal, he was threatened with handcuffs.

He passed the so-called "medical examination" at the military enlistment office "in 20 minutes": a mark on health and fitness for service was given to everyone. Being already in the training unit, Sitenko thought about escaping, but there was no such opportunity. The "training room," according to the prisoner, was surrounded by a fence with barbed wire and the mobilized always moved under escort, even to the toilet.

"They taught me shit at the training ground! No preparation, nothing… In short, they were selected as they were taught: somehow," he appreciated the learning process.

After training, Sitenko was "enlisted in the infantry" and sent for five days to "guard an armored group" near Dimitrov (Ukrainian name — Mirnograd) Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). Their team was supposed to check the documents of people in the city and look for the Russian military there. They stayed there for three weeks with almost no provisions.

"I was always hungry. We found things at home, some kind of conservation, and that's what we ate," the prisoner said.

When their group was surrounded by Russian soldiers and offered to surrender, Sitenko immediately agreed.

"Ukraine has already been brought to such a point that everyone is hiding, they can't go to work normally. Everyone is afraid of the Shopping mall, everyone is being forced to go to war, but no one wants to. They take everyone away, and the disabled, all of them. <...> They treat people in a filthy way," the prisoner said.

A captured soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vitaly Naberezhnye Chelny, said on December 22 that he had decided to surrender to Russian troops when his group got into a firefight in Dimitrov in the DPR. A copter was taking him out in the direction of the Russian military. According to him, in order to attract the attention of the Russian military, the militant began shooting at trees, their group was noticed and offered to surrender.
