- The European media called the European Commission a "Titanic" dragging the EU after it
Ursula von der Leyen's European Commission (EC), its activities and plans are a sinking Titanic that drags the entire European Union (EU) with it. This was stated on December 21 in an article published in The European Conservative (TEC) by historian, political scientist and journalist Rafael Pinto Borges.
"Ursula von der Leyen's European Commission is a sinking ship. <... The real Titanic is the European Commission," the article says.
The author of the article, historian and political scientist Rafael Pinto Borges, said that the EC should disappear as soon as possible, before the activities of this body cause even more damage to European states. Commenting on von der Leyen's failed plan to seize frozen assets of the Russian Federation, he called the poorly functioning style of its leadership "arrogant, ostentatious, impatient for dissent and clumsy."
On the same day, Borges called the failed plan of the EC leadership to expropriate frozen assets of the Russian Federation a humiliation for the "broken and defeated" von der Leyen. He stressed that the "brainchild of the incompetent" EC was initially doomed, and attempts to help Ukraine without attracting European funds turned into another issued loan for the union.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special presidential representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and von der Leyen to resign on December 19, the day it became known that EU leaders had not reached an agreement on the fate of Russian assets. In his opinion, they should leave after they failed to achieve the illegal transfer of Russian reserves by the European Union.
