FIFA confirmed Kerzhakov's goal in the match against Germany in 2005
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has confirmed that former Zenit football club striker Alexander Kerzhakov, and not football player Andrey Arshavin, scored for the Russian national team in a friendly match with Germany in 2005. This was announced on December 20 by journalist Ivan Karpov.
"Recently, the ex-Zenit striker received a corresponding letter from abroad. It says that by all indications, Alexander should be recognized as the author of the goal," the Sport-Express journalist quotes the statement.
The striker, who received a letter from FIFA, sent a request to the Russian Football Union (RFU) for official confirmation. The issue is under the control of the RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov.
At the same time, the current record of the Russian national team's scorers in the number of goals belongs to Akron striker from Tolyatti Artem Dzyuba, who set a new record in March 2025 with 31 goals, while Kerzhakov has 30 goals.
In 2018, it was clarified that two friendly meetings between the Russian Federation and Germany took place in 2005 and 1994. During the first meeting in 1912, Germany won the largest victory in its history, beating the Russian Empire team with a score of 16:0. After that, the countries held another meeting at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig.
