The Russian goalkeeper of the Paris Saint-Germain football club (PSG) Matvey Safonov suffered a broken arm in the Intercontinental Cup final and was out for a month. This was announced on December 19 by the club's press service.

"Matvey Safonov suffered a fractured left arm in the Intercontinental Cup final," the statement said.

It is noted that a second examination will be carried out in 3-4 weeks.

The meeting, where PSG won in a penalty shootout over Brazilian Flamengo, took place on December 17. Safonov became the first goalkeeper in the history of football to deflect four consecutive penalties in a series at an International Football Federation (FIFA) tournament.

Football player and coach Yuri Semin told Izvestia on December 18 that Safonov's outstanding performance in the Intercontinental Cup final was the result of his hard work. He stressed that the footballer showed the highest class of both the Russian school and FC Krasnodar, which brought him up.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
