Experts have named the average amount of spending by Russians on New Year's gifts

Russians plan to spend an average of 7.6 thousand rubles on New Year's gifts, Ingosstrakh and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation found out in a joint study. The majority of respondents plan to spend 3-5 thousand rubles (36%), slightly fewer respondents will spend 6-10 thousand rubles (29%).

According to the study, 82.1% of Russians plan to give gifts for the New Year. Residents of Omsk (88%), Irkutsk (87%), Barnaul and Vladivostok (86% each) were the most generous. There are fewer people willing to make presents in Makhachkala (67%), Tolyatti (73%) and Ufa (75%). Gifts are more often prepared by men (84%) and Russians aged 31-40 (86%).

Among those who plan New Year's shopping, 71% are going to give gifts to their family — parents, children and close relatives. 19.2% of respondents plan to spend money on colleagues, and 13.8% plan to spend money on friends and acquaintances. Another 7.3% will give gifts to their neighbors.

As for the gift format, 57.3% of Russians want to receive physical gifts, 30% are open to a flexible format, depending on the circumstances, 6.5% would prefer digital gifts, 6.2% — money. Young people aged 18-30 are more likely to be open to digital formats (11%), while people aged 41-50 are more likely to give physical gifts. At the same time, the donors themselves choose differently: 46.3% decide on the gift format depending on the person, 24.6% prefer something tangible, 18.5% give money, 10.6% - digital certificates.

Alexey Romanov, Director of Ingosstrakh's e-commerce department, emphasized that when there is a high interest in physical gifts, donors choose certificates or money to avoid useless purchases. "People are increasingly choosing something that brings real benefits as a gift. Certificates for insurance services can be purchased in various denominations, from a small token of attention to a serious gift," he said.
