A court sentenced in absentia to nine years in prison an LGBT activist (the LGBT movement is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia), 39-year-old Alexandra Kazantseva (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation, included in the list of individuals about whom there is information about involvement in extremism or terrorism). "Taking into account the position of the prosecutor's office, foreign agent Alexandra Kazantseva was sentenced in absentia to 9 years in prison to serve her sentence in a general regime penal colony," the agency's Telegram channel said.
Kazantseva was found guilty under clause "d" of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public dissemination under the guise of reliable reports of deliberately false information containing data on the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation motivated by political hatred") and under Part 1.1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Recruitment and other involvement of a person in the activities of an extremist organization").
She is also charged with committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation in the activities of an organization in respect of which a court has taken a final decision to ban activities in connection with extremist activities") and Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code ("Evading duties provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation on foreign agents").
"In February, Kazantseva posted a publication on a social media page containing deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during a special military operation," the department's Telegram channel says.
Also, from December 2023 to May of this year, the defendant participated in the activities of a movement recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation. The criminal case was considered by the court in the absence of the wanted defendant. She was given a preventive measure in the form of detention in absentia.
In September, the Khoroshevsky Court of Moscow arrested Kazantseva in absentia under the article on violating the duties of a foreign agent. The punishment under it provides for up to two years in a penal colony. Also in August, the defendant was given an administrative fine under Part 2 of Article 19.34 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the procedure for the activity of a foreign agent"), she was ordered to pay 40 thousand rubles.
