Increasingly, employees are refusing to participate in corporate events, which has become a noticeable trend in recent years. Inna Filippova, Chief Operating Officer of the SOK smart office network, told Izvestia on December 25 how such events can affect employee motivation and what companies should change.

"A corporate event is always an excuse to get together and discuss outside topics that are distracted from work. Such communication makes it possible to strengthen the ties between departments, because in the usual dynamics of work, the social circle of employees is usually much narrower. In addition, corporate events are an excellent opportunity for new employees to join the team in an informal setting. Celebrating together creates an emotional foundation that makes it easier to cope with work difficulties, relieve stress and reduce stress levels," the expert explained.

According to her, the rejection of corporate events does not always indicate the presence of problems in the corporate culture. This may be due to the inconvenient time of the event or the lack of relevance of the proposed format. Problems may arise if the refusal becomes widespread, but such cases, according to the expert, are rather rare.

Filippova added that one of the most effective ways to attract employees to corporate events is to collect the ideas of the employees themselves. This allows you to understand their interests and create an event that will meet the needs of the majority. This approach gives people a sense of belonging and the importance of their opinions, which helps to increase motivation and engagement.

In addition, corporate scenarios have long become familiar in many companies, which can lead to a loss of interest on the part of employees. Filippova stated that it is important to offer original event formats, but not to get carried away with experiments that may not resonate with the team. The main thing is not to forget about the goals of the corporate event and select such activities that contribute to their achievement.

On December 16, Ilya Vasilchuk, a trial lawyer, an expert on the security of electronic transactions and real estate transactions, and a public figure, said that in some situations, an employer's refusal to allow an employee to attend a corporate event may violate an employee's labor rights and entail liability. If an employee is not invited to an event due to lateness, conflicts, or refusal to go to work on a day off, this is outside the scope of the law. The Labor Code provides for a limited list of disciplinary penalties — reprimand, reprimand, and dismissal on established grounds, and "corporate disqualification" does not apply to them.
