The Iranian authorities have released a Russian citizen who was in prison for taking photographs of so-called "sensitive" objects. This was announced on December 17 by the press service of the Russian Embassy in Tehran.

According to the diplomatic mission, the Russian was convicted in the fall of 2024. The ministry's statement published on the Telegram channel notes that the Russian Foreign Ministry and the embassy in Tehran have been constantly working on his release since his detention.

"We confirm the release by the Iranian authorities of a citizen of the Russian Federation who has been held in prison for a long time," the statement said.

The released citizen is currently in the building of the Russian Embassy and is awaiting his return home.

On September 8, Izvestia reported on the return of detained Russian ethnologist and cultural and social anthropologist Svyatoslav Kaverin to Russia from Afghanistan. Upon arrival at Sheremetyevo airport, the researcher posted a photo from the passport control area, and then, after meeting with family and friends in the airport, shared the details of his conclusion.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
