Meloni denied Italy's plans to send troops to Ukraine
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on December 17 that the country would not send its troops to Ukraine as part of a multinational force.
Meloni said that in order to ensure Ukraine's security, it is planned to create a multinational force that will operate on the basis of the voluntary participation of countries.
"I confirm once again that Italy does not intend to send its soldiers to Ukraine," the politician said, the broadcast of her address was published by the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.
On the same day, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz did not respond to a question about the participation of the German Armed Forces in the multinational forces in Ukraine. According to him, the United States is ready to provide Kiev with security guarantees similar to NATO's Article 5 in the event of a cease-fire.
Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, noted on December 16 that Russia opposes the deployment of multinational forces on the territory of Ukraine, as they are part of NATO.
