- An archaeological monument dating back 2.5 thousand years has been discovered in Afghanistan.
A previously unknown archaeological site has been discovered in eastern Afghanistan, which, according to experts, is more than 2.5 thousand years old. This was reported by Arkeonews magazine on December 17.
The found site is located in the Alungar region, in the Sava Valley, near the area known as Situn, and dates back approximately to the period from 1000 to 500 BC, which corresponds to the Early Iron Age in Eastern Afghanistan.
Previously, archaeologists discovered unique elements — a stone staircase and up to 12 rooms cut into the rock. These finds indicate planned construction rather than temporary shelters.
A ceramic vessel was also found, which the researchers suggest was used for drinking. Despite their modest appearance, such sites are important indicators of sustainable human activity and help archaeologists figure out whether this place was used as a residential area or a ceremonial complex.
Local authorities believe that the discovery of stone architecture in Laghman may expand understanding of ancient settlement patterns in the province, as well as its role in the region's early civilizations. According to the publication, as research continues, the monument may provide a unique insight into life, traditions and social organization in eastern Afghanistan more than 2,000 years ago.
The day before, Arkeonews reported the discovery of a burial site with the remains of a dog and a bone dagger on the shore of a vanished lake and the current Logsjemossen swamp in southern Sweden. It was clarified that the find dates back to the Late Neolithic period — 3300-2600 BC — and represents one of the most significant discoveries in Europe, which allows us to explore the ancient relationship between humans and animals.
