Sergei Sobyanin opened a tram line with autonomous cars

At the end of 2025, three transport projects related to trams were implemented in Moscow. The first tram diameter was launched in the capital, a fully unmanned tram was put on the rails, and cars with full autonomous movement appeared on lines without a contact network. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin spoke about the updates to the transport infrastructure on December 16.

"Specialists of the Moscow Metro have replaced the rails, sleepers and the top covering of the tracks. New tracks were laid on the section of Gilyarovsky Street between Trifonovskaya Street and Rizhskaya Square, and a U—turn ring for trams was set up near the Rizhskaya metro station," Sobyanin said in the MAX messenger.

The mayor clarified that the technology of seamless laying of rails with rubber seals and special vibration-proofing mats was used during construction. Sobyanin assures that the trams will move quietly and smoothly. The switches at the intersections of the new sections with the existing network of tracks have also been updated. It is noted that in the course of the work, the adjacent streets were improved, and a comfortable public space with landscaping and cozy recreation areas was created on Rizhskaya Square.

The mayor of the capital also shared his plans for the coming years. According to him, it is planned to open the second Moscow diameter T2 and further expand the Moscow tram network.

On December 16, the website of the Moscow City Hall reported that the Moscow government had approved plans for the construction of an educational complex and a public and business facility with a total area of about 33,000 square meters in the north of the capital. The corresponding decree was signed by Sobyanin. In the Voykovsky district on Admiral Makarov Street, it is planned to build an educational complex for 1,075 places, and in the Zapadnoye Degunino district in Ilmensky Proezd, it is planned to erect a public and business facility with parking area of 15.4 thousand square meters. m.
