Ukrainian translator called NATO troops "corpses" at Zelensky's briefing

During a joint press conference in Berlin between German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a Ukrainian translator made a mistake on December 15, which led to the statement that "NATO corpses" would ensure the observance of the truce on the contact line.

The situation occurred at a time when one of the journalists asked if NATO forces were capable of acting as a guarantor of the ceasefire in Ukraine. The woman, having heard the German word Truppen, meaning "troops," translated it as "corpses."

The incorrect translation immediately attracted the attention of the event participants: Zelensky, who was also asked a question, was taken aback for a few seconds, and then, starting to answer the question, independently suggested that there was an inaccuracy in the translation.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters are being armed with what they wrote off in Europe, which indicates the depletion of NATO reserves, experts say.

During the same briefing, Merz said that the United States and the European Union (EU) countries had agreed to provide security guarantees for Ukraine. According to him, the guarantees will be similar to NATO's Article 5. According to the Chancellor, Washington, whose initiatives he called "really impressive," has already assumed relevant commitments, which at the current stage are of a political nature.
