More than 60 thousand babies underwent advanced screening in the Moscow region

Since the beginning of 2025, more than 60 thousand newborns have undergone extended neonatal screening in the Moscow Region. The examination makes it possible to identify 36 genetic diseases.

According to Maxim Zabelin, deputy chairman of the regional government and Minister of Health of the region, quoted by the online publication Podmoskovye Segodnya, early diagnosis of such diseases is necessary for timely initiation of treatment and follow–up in a dispensary.

Thus, 97 of all children studied since the beginning of the year have been diagnosed with diseases.

Neonatal advanced screening is performed in the first days of a child's life. Blood is taken from the heel for analysis. If deviations from the norm are detected, specialists contact the child's parents and explain further actions.

Earlier it was reported that since the beginning of 2025, neonatologists in the Moscow region have managed to save about 3.5 thousand children who were born prematurely. Of these, 191 newborns had extremely low body weight. Such data is reported by the regional Ministry of Health on the International Day of Premature Babies.
