The expert named the alleged location of the missing tourists in the Kama region
A group of snowmobilers who disappeared in the Perm Region could encounter problems on the access roads to Oslyanka Mountain. Andrey Shikhov, a meteorologist and associate professor at Perm State University, who has been to the summit 14 times, told Izvestia about this on December 15.
He clarified that there are no specific dangers in the form of steep slopes or avalanche risks on Oslyanka, and it is much easier to move along the mountain than to overcome the road to it.
"Emergencies with snowmobiles occur at entrances, somewhere in a wooded area, because there is a lot of snow and there are quite a lot of streams under it that are not frozen. <...> There were practically no frosts. For snowmobiles, the passage of such sections, especially logging roads, where there are large ruts filled with water under the snow, presents certain difficulties," explained the meteorologist.
Shikhov noted that the so—called Bolshaya Uralskaya Trail runs through Oslyanka, an all-season tourist route combining hiking, water, cycling and automobile tracks. He admitted that snowmobilers can rest in one of the huts located on the route, and not even suspect that someone is looking for them.
"The weather is normal for this area and this time, but a cold snap is expected. By tomorrow evening, it will already be -23 <...> -25 degrees. <...> The longer they are searched for, the more likely they are to have fuel problems," the specialist added.
On December 14, the Lisa Alert search and rescue team received a request to search for an unregistered tourist group in the Perm Region and formed visiting teams. Later, law enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and volunteers were involved in the rescue operation. The Investigative Committee (IC) announced an investigation into the disappearance, after which it opened a criminal case.
On December 15, Kirill Chelyshev, coordinator of LizaAlert, spoke about the use of a drone to search for missing tourists. According to him, the drone will be launched from the top of the mountain, where it will be transported by snowmobiles. The press service of the Perm Territory Ministry of Tourism told Izvestia that the search and rescue operation is ongoing.
